CELEBRATING 21 YEARS OF FLYING BIRDS, RIDING HORSES & BED AND BREAKFAST! ……..for the perfect Exmoor break!
We run as a small Exmoor Outdoor Activities centre situated in the Porlock Vale, one mile from Porlock and five miles from Minehead, just off the A39 between Allerford & Bossington.
We live in one of the most beautiful parts of the world, on Exmoor National Park, situated within the National Trust little known and totally unspoilt Holnicote Estate, in Somerset, just five miles west of Minehead.
Our farmstead dates back to medieval times, around 1436 in the 15th Century and has amazing historical architectural features, including thatched barns, cobbles, decorative windows, mullioned windows in the old barns, round pillars and evidence of many fireplaces both inside the main house and the 'kitchen' building opposite.
It is thought however, that an original building was on the site dating back to 830AD, and indeed perhaps the mysterious front door was a relic from this era. The dining room has curved beams said to originate from shipwrecks off the coast!
The farm is a 'must visit' for anyone interested in the history alone!
The little Lynch Chapel of Ease is in the corner of our lower yard - we call this Chapel Yard - and this too dates back to 1430's when the current house was originally built. …..more
Rod and I run the Centre today with its great history and conservation in mind - reflecting the rural and rustic elements of ancient tradition in the way we work with and train our animals, birds and horses - we use natural rememdies, herbal recipes and behavioural methods throughout.
Cathy and Rod invite you to stay BED & BREAKFAST or VISIT FOR THE DAY at our homely 15th century National Trust farmstead within Exmoor National Park, with our large collection of owls, birds of prey, and friendly animals to greet you around every corner.
At our small, unique outdoor activity centre in the Porlock Vale, you can have a real Exmoor bed & breakfast experience, fly owls and other birds with us, go horse riding on Exmoor, or take a Falabella pony walk through the local village of Bossington and surrounding countryside as well as visit for the day.
Avoid the crowds, and enjoy a peaceful and relaxing day with us, amidst our friendly animals in this special conservation area.
At Exmoor Owl & Hawk Centre, we have one of the finest collections of flown owls in the world, plus hawks, an eagle and a palm nut vulture, and you can enjoy watching them fly in our flying barn and outside in our open field during our Afternoon with the Birds display, then finish with a delicious Somerset Cream Tea.
Our lovely 'Macaws Tea Gardens' offer outside and inside seating where you can indulge in our Somerset Cream Teas, and other local delicacies in a peaceful, relaxing tranquil setting, situated between the chocloate box hamlets of Allerford and Bossington, near Porlock, Minehead and Lynton/Lynmouth.
We invite you to ride with us on Exmoor using natural horsemandship techniques on our lovely forward going barefoot horses over neighbouring Exmoor. Our horses have bitless bridles, treeless saddles and are shoeless to their advantage!
We enjoy sharing this wonderful place on Exmoor with you, your family and dogs staying Bed & Breakfast in our delightful ensuite rooms.
We are situated within the Porlock Vale, part of the Holnicote Estate, Exmoor National Park, only one mile from Porlock and five miles from Minehead, where we can recommend various places to eat. An Exmoor countryside escape to be cherished.
Fly with us, Ride with us, Stay with us and you will take home memories of Exmoor to last a lifetime.
